Lu’s Window

As you may recall our move provided Luna with a big beautiful window to look out of. She really likes it. Unfortunately those free walking dogs caused some problems for Luna and her beloved window.

When these dogs or cats would go by….Luna would freak out….barking and spitting all over this window. The window was cleaned daily which I didn’t really mind. But the ledge took a beating from her nails and her craziness. There were deep scratch marks all along the ledge. So I came up with a temporary solution while I worked on her not reacting so extreme to these animals…..

Not overly attractive, it still did the job. Lu has made very good progress while I’m at home to tone down her reaction. She’s done so well that I figured I would take the gates out of the window and see if she would stay off the ledge. It went well for the first free walker that went by. But by the second she was back in full crazy mode. I realize now that although progress is good she may need this area blocked permanently  to remind her that her reaction must remain low on the crazy scale. However, I just couldn’t live with these baby gates in the window. So I found a solution that works and actually looks good.

Now we both can enjoy the window.

Goodbye Miss Kitty

If it should be that I grow frail and weak

And pain does keep me from my sleep,

Then will you do what must be done

for this – the last battle -can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand

But don’t let grief then stay your hand.

For on this day, more than the rest

Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,

You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.

When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where my needs they’ll tend,

Only, stay with me till the end.

And hold me firm and speak to me

Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree

It is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved,

From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must now be you

Who has to decide this thing to do.

We’ve been so close – we two -these years,

Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

Big changes.

Lu has a new window. I have a new house. It’s been a difficult transition for both of us to go from acreage to living in a hamlet. There are people here. There are dogs here. And there are A LOT  of cats here.

Most people I notice walk their dogs by opening their front door and letting them run free. This is annoying but a good training opportunity. Lu freaks out when she sees these dogs run by and really freaks out when she sees them pee on her property. Lol However, Lu has met a few dogs while she is out back on her cable (fencing is definitely on my list of home improvement). She has greeted and even played with these unsupervised dogs.

I have had to retrain Lu in a few areas since moving here:

Car drives by – no longer need to be alerted to this since we are in town. Lots of cars drive by.

People within eye shot of house – nope don’t need to know that either. Only if they come to the door or  are actually on the property.

Mastered ✅

Cats and dogs – didn’t need to know about it before don’t really need to know about it now.

 Work in progress.

It’s a good move. It’s what Lu and I both needed. We get ample opportunities to work on her issues ( and mine) and I don’t need to go looking for dogs to practise with. They are literally right outside my door.

A New Friend For Lu

This is Timber and Lu. Timber is a rescue dog that my daughter adopted from the same rescue that I got Lu from.

Although I have worked endlessly to get Lu to at least look at another dog without going crazy she has not quite mastered this. So when my daughter told me she would be adopting a dog my first response was how wonderful for her and her family to open their home and hearts to a rescue…my second thought was ‘I sure hope this dog will be tolerant to Lu’s way of greeting’. I didn’t need to worry.

Timber has some sort of magic spell that he cast upon Luna (maybe it’s his eyes) cause the moment they met she has been drooling all over him…literally. She loves Timber.

I admit I was a little jealous as he is a great off leash dog. Excellent recall. There is no way Lu will ever be able to be off leash unless the world becomes void of any moving creature. But that’s ok. I have always accepted that about Lu.

Timber seems to have a more serious personality. Totally pack orientated. He loves attention and seeks it out all the time. He is perfect for my daughter’s family.

But for me….Lu is the perfect dog cause I get this…..

…..endless laughter. I love my goofy dog and I am so happy she has a new friend.
